My mom could pick up almost anything with her toes.
When I was upset, especially if I was mad at or hurt by someone, she had a way of acknowledging and affirming my feelings without ever disparaging the source.
She cooked huge family meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and always made everything come out at the same time.
She had deadpan humor and perfect comic timing.
Hers was the gold standard of apple pies.
She attended to people, in her listening and words and actions.
My mom had strengths. Skills. Superpowers, I would tell her now. (Many of them I didn’t even know about until after she died, and people told me stories.) Did she know that?
Some of us have gotten together around this belief, that moms are stronger than we know. We’ve created a place to explore that. It’s called Makes You Mom, and it’s coming soon. Will you come with us?
What are (or were) your mom’s superpowers? If you’re a mom, what are yours?
